ZIF (zero insertion force) connectors are the actuated-latch flat-cable connectors used for FPC/FFC ribbons and MIPI CSI/DSI camera and display links, typically in 0.5mm to 1.25mm pitch. The actuator is the weak point: cheap ZIF parts have low actuation cycle life and the latch wears, causing intermittent contact on camera and display lines that are unforgiving of signal integrity loss. Specifying rated cycle life and contact style is the main sourcing decision.

When sourcing ZIF connectors, confirm the pitch, contact side (top vs bottom), and rated actuation cycles against your assembly and service needs. For MIPI lanes, signal integrity and the exact pinout matter — non-standard pinouts are a common trap that bricks an otherwise correct mechanical fit.

What's the difference between ZIF and LIF connectors?

ZIF (zero insertion force) uses an actuator latch so the cable slides in freely then clamps, giving higher cycle life and easier rework. LIF (low insertion force) relies on friction; it's cheaper but wears the cable faster on repeated mating.

Why do FPC/camera connections fail intermittently?

Usually a worn or under-rated ZIF actuator, a contaminated contact, or a pitch/contact-side mismatch. On MIPI CSI/DSI lines, signal integrity is tight, so a marginally seated cable shows up as flicker or dropout rather than a clean failure.
