Consumer Electronics
Source consumer electronics from China with engineer-led vetting. FCC, CE, RoHS, Qi2. Avoid spec drift, fake factories, and certification failures.
What buyers source in consumer electronics
This category covers the hardware most buyers first think of when they say "electronics from China": Bluetooth speakers, USB-C hubs and docking stations, portable power banks, wireless charger pads, mini projectors, Android TV boxes, soundbars, FPV drones, POS printers, and networking gear. Most of these sit in the $3,000–$50,000 first-order range and ship in 25–50 days once the supplier is qualified.
Specs and certifications to verify first
Do not rely on the factory Alibaba page. For the US, any product with WiFi or Bluetooth needs FCC Part 15 authorization; for the EU, you need CE marking under RED, EMC, and usually LVD, plus RoHS and REACH. Wireless chargers should hold WPC Qi or Qi2 certification. IPX waterproof claims need an IEC 60529 lab report with the testing body's accreditation number. For projectors, insist on ANSI lumens, not "peak lumens." For batteries, request a discharge test at 0.2C to verify real capacity.
Where these products are actually made
Shenzhen (Baoan and Longhua districts) dominates design, RF modules, and final assembly. Dongguan (Chang'an, Dalingshan) handles injection molding, speaker assembly, and cable production. Huizhou runs a large share of power banks and lithium pack assembly. Guangzhou has strong audio and set-top-box clusters. Yiwu offers small-MOQ trading options but is also where many fake "factories" operate from shared offices. We typically shortlist 3–5 suppliers per project, audit on site, and keep the factory direct.
Common pitfalls
The biggest recurring issues are spec sheet inflation (lumens, mAh, Bluetooth version), firmware that does not match the hardware, and certification gaps. A pre-certified RF module does not certify your finished enclosure; change the antenna or housing and you may need a new FCC filing. Component substitution is routine unless you lock the BOM and mark every approved alternative. B-grade battery cells are common below $8/unit power banks.
Why an engineer-led sourcing agent matters
Most sourcing agents negotiate price and chase samples. We read the schematic, review the BOM against the target certifications, spot DFM issues before tooling, and verify component markings on the line. Catching a compliance or design problem before mass production typically saves 10x the cost of fixing it after shipment. If you are sourcing consumer electronics from China, our sourcing, factory audit, and inspection services are built around that difference.

Procurement FAQs for consumer electronics
What MOQ should I expect for OEM consumer electronics in China? +
Off-the-shelf custom branding usually starts at 300–500 units. Private tooling or firmware customization typically requires 500–2,000 units. PCB assembly can start around 100–500 boards, but final assembly, packaging, and testing push the practical floor higher.
Which certifications do I need for US vs EU markets? +
US-market electronics with wireless functionality need FCC Part 15 authorization (FCC ID via a TCB for intentional radiators). The EU requires CE marking, usually under RED for radio, EMC for emissions, and LVD for safety, plus RoHS and REACH. Wireless chargers also need WPC Qi certification, and IPX claims need IEC 60529 lab reports.
How do I know the factory is real and not a trader? +
Check the business license on China's National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System, verify ISO 9001 certificate numbers with the issuing body, request a live video factory tour showing production lines, and ask for recent third-party audit reports. For orders above $20,000, an on-site audit is the only reliable verification.
What causes the biggest delays in electronics production? +
The most common delays are firmware iterations that were not scoped before deposit, component shortages on the approved BOM, certification test failures that require PCB revisions, and tooling changes discovered after samples were approved. Locking the BOM and test plan before mass production avoids most of these.
