What's the difference between IPC-A-600 Class 2 and Class 3?
Class 2 is the standard for most commercial electronics; Class 3 demands tighter tolerances for high-reliability applications like medical or aerospace. Class 3 costs more, so only specify it where the application truly needs it.
When do I need Rogers instead of FR4?
Rogers and other high-frequency laminates matter for RF and microwave designs (radar, high-speed RF) where FR4's dielectric loss is too high. Expect a cost multiplier of several times FR4, so use it only on the layers that need it.
Which surface finish should I choose?
ENIG gives flat, solderable pads good for fine-pitch and is the safe default; HASL is cheaper but uneven; OSP is low-cost but has a shorter shelf life. Match the finish to your assembly process and storage time.
