MOQ (minimum order quantity) on Chinese electronics is rarely a single number — it is driven by the most expensive constraint in the BOM, usually a custom component (a unique injection mold, a reel of a specific MCU, a PCB panelization minimum). A factory quoting 'MOQ 5,000' is often really telling you the break-even point of one part, and the levers that move it are real: accepting a stock color, buying the component reel yourself, or paying a tooling fee to amortize setup. The mistake is treating MOQ as a flat refusal instead of asking which line item drives it.

MOQ is the smallest quantity a factory will run, set by whichever cost (tooling, component reels, line setup) it needs to amortize. The pitfall is taking the headline number at face value; we ask the factory to break down which component or process forces it, then negotiate that specific lever.
