Electronics QC that stops at AQL visual sampling misses the failures that actually hurt — a swapped MCU, a counterfeit capacitor, or firmware that differs from the approved build. An engineering approach adds BOM line-item verification against the golden sample, component date-code and authenticity checks, and functional/firmware integrity testing on top of cosmetic AQL. For a typical PCBA order, that means cross-checking reels and markings on the line, not just inspecting finished boxes at the end.
Engineering-level QC reviews the electrical design and build, not only the cosmetic finish. The common pitfall is assuming a passing AQL inspection means the boards are correct; AQL catches scratches and missing screws, not a quietly substituted voltage regulator or a re-marked counterfeit IC.

Why isn't AQL sampling enough for electronics?
AQL is a statistical visual/functional check tuned for cosmetic and obvious defects. It won't reliably catch component substitution, counterfeit parts, or firmware changes, which are the costly failures in electronics and need component-level and functional engineering review.
How do you check for counterfeit components?
We verify part markings, date codes, and packaging against the manufacturer's reference, check for re-marking under magnification or solvent test, and where stakes are high, use X-ray or decapsulation on samples. Sourcing from authorized distributors reduces the risk upstream.
