What to Check When Sourcing
The LED panel light market is saturated with products that hit their lumen spec on Day 1 but degrade significantly within 6 months. Three things to verify before committing to a factory:
Driver quality. The driver is the most failure-prone component. Insist on a named-brand driver — Meanwell, MOSO, or Inventronics — rather than an anonymous “high-efficiency” unit. Ask the factory for the driver’s datasheet and verify the model number is actually what they’re shipping.
LM79 test report. This is the photometric test report from an accredited lab (TÜV, Intertek, Bureau Veritas). The report shows real lumen output, efficacy, and CCT. If a supplier provides an internal test report rather than a third-party one, treat the spec as unverified.
Thermal pad between LED board and housing. Many budget panels skip or use minimal thermal interface material. Ask the factory to show you the assembly cross-section — the aluminum heatsink should make direct contact with the LED board through a silicone pad, not just air.
Common Issues
Batch-to-batch CCT drift — Color temperature can vary ±200K between production batches if the factory doesn’t bin LEDs. Specify a CCT tolerance in your purchase agreement (e.g., “4000K ±150K”) and test the first 10 units from each batch.
Driver flicker — Cheaper drivers produce measurable flicker that causes eye fatigue. For office applications, request a flicker measurement with the SVM (Stroboscopic Visibility Measure) specification in your QC checklist.
Missing or expired CE DoC — The EU Declaration of Conformity must be issued by the manufacturer and must cover the specific product model you’re ordering. Some factories use a DoC from a similar but different product.
