China Import Tariff & Landed-Cost Calculator

Enter a product category, destination, and order value to estimate import duty, tax, and total landed cost from China. Indicative figures — confirm the exact rate with your customs broker.

Enter an order value to see the estimate.

Figures are indicative planning estimates only. The exact duty rate depends on the 10-digit HS code, country of origin, and any trade remedy in force on the day of entry. Confirm with a licensed customs broker before you order.

How this estimate is calculated

Duty is charged on the declared goods value at an indicative rate for the category and destination. Import tax (VAT or GST) is then applied to the goods value plus shipping plus duty — the standard customs base in the EU and UK. Below a country's de-minimis threshold, both are usually waived. The US figure folds in the Section 301 surcharge that applies to most China-origin electronics.

Tariff FAQ

Import duty & landed-cost questions

How much import duty do I pay on electronics from China? +

It depends on the product and destination. Most consumer electronics carry a 0–5% duty rate in the EU, UK, and Japan, while the US adds a Section 301 surcharge of around 25% on top of the base rate for most China-origin electronics. Bare PCBs and many IoT modules are often duty-free in the EU but not in the US. Use the calculator above for a category-by-destination estimate, then confirm the 10-digit HS code with a customs broker.

Is there a duty-free threshold for small shipments? +

Yes — it is called de minimis. The US threshold was 800 USD per shipment, but the 2025–2026 rule change removed that exemption for China-origin goods, so most commercial imports now pay duty from the first dollar. The EU is scrapping its 150 EUR customs exemption and adding a 3 EUR handling charge per parcel from 2026. Japan's threshold is 10,000 JPY, Canada's 20 CAD, Australia's 1,000 AUD.

Who pays the import duty and VAT — me or the supplier? +

Under FOB or EXW terms, which most factories quote, the buyer is the importer of record and pays all duty and import tax in the destination country. The supplier's price covers the goods only. If a supplier quotes DDP (delivered duty paid) they handle it — but check how they declare the goods value, because under-declaration is your legal risk, not theirs.

How is landed cost calculated? +

Landed cost = goods value + freight + duty + import tax. Duty is charged on the declared goods value; import VAT or GST is then charged on goods plus freight plus duty, the standard EU and UK customs base. The calculator above applies this order. On a 100-unit order, freight and duty often add 15–30% over the unit price — budget for it before you set a retail price.

Did US tariffs on China change in 2026? +

Yes. The Section 301 surcharges on most China-origin electronics remain in force, and the 800 USD de-minimis exemption was removed for China-origin shipments, so low-value parcels that used to enter duty-free now clear as formal commercial entries. Check the current USTR exclusion list for your HS code — a few categories rotate on and off.

What changes for EU imports from China in 2026? +

The EU is removing the 150 EUR customs-duty exemption on low-value parcels and adding a 3 EUR per-parcel handling fee from 2026, aimed at high-volume e-commerce. For commercial importers shipping by pallet this changes little — you already pay duty — but it ends the duty-free route for sample and small-batch parcel shipments.
