SASO is the Saudi standards authority, and for electronics it's enforced through SABER, the online platform where you register a product, get a Product Certificate of Conformity (PCoC), then a Shipment Certificate of Conformity (SCoC) before customs clearance via FASAH. The factory has to supply IEC test reports — IEC 62368-1 for IT/AV gear, IEC 60335 for appliances — and the product must run on 220V/60Hz, not the 50Hz common elsewhere. A PCoC typically costs a few hundred USD and is valid for one year; the SCoC is per shipment.
When you source for Saudi Arabia, SASO compliance is the importer's legal responsibility but rests on factory test data. The common pitfall is a factory holding CE reports only — CE does not satisfy SASO, and you'll need IEC reports from an accredited lab plus a SABER-registered certification body before goods can clear Jeddah or Dammam.

Who applies for SASO/SABER, the factory or the importer?
The Saudi importer holds the SABER account and applies, but the factory must provide the IEC test reports and technical documentation. In practice the China supplier or your agent coordinates the lab testing while the importer manages the SABER registration.
How long does SASO certification take?
If the factory already has valid IEC reports, a PCoC can be issued in roughly 5–10 working days. If new testing is needed, budget 3–6 weeks for the lab work plus the certificate issuance.
Does a CE mark cover Saudi Arabia?
No. CE is an EU mark and is not accepted for SASO. Saudi Arabia requires IEC test reports against the relevant standard (e.g., IEC 62368-1) and registration through SABER for both a PCoC and a per-shipment SCoC.
