A battery management system is what keeps a lithium pack from overcharging, over-discharging, or running cells out of balance, and China is the main source for both protection ICs and complete BMS boards. The spec that matters most is cell balancing — passive balancing is cheap and common, active balancing costs more but matters for large multi-cell packs. A BMS that ships with the pack also feeds into IEC 62133 compliance, so the protection thresholds need to match your cell datasheet.
