LiFePO4 Battery Cell Sourcing from China

1 resources tagged with "Battery Cell"

LiFePO4 (LFP) cell sourcing in China divides into two tiers: cell giants like CATL, EVE, and CALB that pour the raw prismatic cells, and pack assemblers that buy those cells and add a BMS and enclosure. The trap for buyers is the B-grade cell — assemblers sometimes substitute factory-second cells that test below the rated cycle life. A genuine Grade A LFP cell should hold 4,000–6,000 cycles to 80% capacity; B-grade can drop to a fraction of that.

When you source LFP cells, ask which tier you're buying from and demand the cell maker's name and grade in writing. We sample capacity and internal resistance and cross-check the UN 38.3 report against the stated cell model.

FAQ

What cycle life should a genuine LFP cell have?

Grade A prismatic LFP cells from CATL, EVE, or CALB are rated 4,000–6,000 cycles to 80% capacity. If a supplier quotes far fewer cycles or won't name the cell maker, suspect B-grade stock.

How is a cell maker different from a pack assembler?

Cell makers (CATL, EVE, CALB) produce the bare cells; pack assemblers combine them with a BMS into a finished pack. Most custom orders go through assemblers, so the cell grade depends on what they actually source.
