Commercial Treadmill (3–5 HP DC Motor, 0–20 km/h)
OEM commercial treadmills with EN 957-6 certification for EU gym and fitness wholesale buyers. Verified continuous HP ratings, belt lifespan, and deck cushioning specifications.
EN 957-6: Mandatory EU Standard for Commercial Treadmills
EN 957-6 is the specific European standard for treadmills — Part 6 of the EN 957 series covering stationary training equipment. It defines safety requirements including emergency stop cord function, handrail strength, speed accuracy (<5% deviation), and incline accuracy. For commercial gym equipment sold in the EU, CE marking based on EN 957-6 is mandatory. Fitness equipment importers in Germany, France, and the UK require this as a purchase condition.
The standard differentiates between Class H (home use) and Class S (commercial/studio use). Commercial buyers require Class S certification — this involves more demanding durability tests including a 500-hour running test. Verify the factory’s CE certificate explicitly states EN 957-6 Class S, not just generic CE. Some factories declare CE against generic EN 60335-1 electrical safety only, which does not cover the mechanical treadmill safety requirements.
Continuous HP Rating vs Peak HP and Belt Lifespan
Motor HP ratings on Chinese treadmills are almost universally quoted at peak (instantaneous) power. A 5 HP peak motor may deliver only 2.5 HP continuously. Continuous HP under sustained load is the honest commercial specification. Test this directly: run the treadmill at 14 km/h with a 100 kg load for 60 minutes and measure actual motor current draw and temperature rise. A properly rated 3 HP continuous motor will remain under 80°C at the motor casing after 60 minutes.
Running belt lifespan is measured in cumulative distance. Commercial grade belts should be rated to a minimum of 80,000 km — the factory should provide a belt wear test report or reference a certified belt supplier. Belt tracking alignment is the most common maintenance issue: verify the belt runs centered on the deck with no side drift over 5 minutes of unloaded operation. Lubrication interval documentation (silicone oil under the belt every 150 km) must be included in the user manual for commercial warranties.
