Door & Window Contact Sensor (Zigbee / Tuya)

A door/window contact sensor is a two-part magnetic reed switch that reports open/closed state — the volume backbone of any home-security system. The two variables that separate a reliable OEM unit from a return-generating one are gap tolerance (how far the two halves can separate before triggering) and honest battery life. Gap tolerance and mounting

The reed switch triggers when the magnet moves beyond a threshold separation. Two field problems:

• Gap too tight. A sensor that needs ≤5mm alignment is unforgiving on warped or misaligned window frames common in older Gulf villas — it false-triggers or fails to arm. Confirm the trigger gap (a quality unit reliably triggers at >20mm) and the recommended mounting alignment.
• Adhesive in heat. Gulf interiors get hot; cheap 3M-style adhesive fails. Specify a heat-rated adhesive (or screw mount option).

The action item: test the actual trigger gap and adhesive on a sample at room temperatures representative of the install — datasheet gap figures are often best-case.

Battery life — verify, don’t trust

Manufacturer “2-year battery” claims need the same scrutiny as any coin-cell sensor: the real number depends on Zigbee poll interval and report frequency. Ask for a measured average-current test, not a calculated estimate. Zigbee 3.0 binds to a local hub; Tuya Wi-Fi uses the Tuya app with Arabic support (Tuya reference).
