Ce Este Acest Produs
The E40 LED retrofit lamp replaces HID (metal halide, high-pressure sodium, mercury vapour) lamps in existing industrial and street-lighting fixtures without changing the housing. The E40 Goliath screw base is the standard for high-wattage luminaires across Europe, the Middle East, and South/Southeast Asia. Our sourcing service helps you identify factories with genuine thermal test data and verified driver reliability — not just paper specs — and our industrial IoT expertise extends to evaluating power supply quality for large-scale lighting deployments.
The commercial case is straightforward: a 40W LED retrofit delivering 7,200 lm replaces a 250W HID lamp that produces 22,000 lm — but the HID fixture at end-of-life is often running at 50–60% of rated output, making the actual replacement ratio closer to 1:1 in perceived brightness. Combined with 6× lower power draw, retrofit payback periods of 18–36 months are typical in 3,000+ hour/year industrial applications.
Direct mains operation is the critical specification. Chinese factories produce two variants:
- Direct mains (AC 100–277V input, built-in driver): Replaces the HID lamp with no gear modifications. All igniters and capacitors must be removed before installation. This is the correct product for retrofits.
- Ballast-compatible: Designed to run through an existing electromagnetic or electronic ballast. Narrower compatibility range; rarely specified for new projects.
Always confirm the variant explicitly — spec sheets sometimes do not distinguish clearly.
Specificații Cheie de Specificat
Lumen output and efficacy at operating temperature. Published lumen values are typically at 25°C ambient. In a fully enclosed high-bay housing at 45°C ambient, LED junction temperature rises and output drops 10–15%. Request lumen maintenance data at 45°C or ask for thermal test reports. Efficacy of 180 lm/W at 25°C often means 155–165 lm/W in real installation conditions.
Color temperature consistency across a batch. Warehouses and factories with 50–200 fixtures notice colour inconsistency strongly. Specify a MacAdam ellipse tolerance (3-step or tighter) and require batch-level binning documentation with shipment.
Driver lifetime and capacitor quality. The LED chips in a well-made retrofit lamp will outlast the driver by 2:1 or more. The failure mode for most E40 retrofit lamps is driver failure at 15,000–25,000 hours — not LED depreciation. Specify electrolytic capacitor brands (Rubycon, Nippon Chemi-Con, or equivalent) or request driver MTBF data.
Surge protection. Industrial environments generate electrical transients. A minimum 4kV surge rating (per IEC 61000-4-5) is standard; 6kV is preferable for factory floors with heavy machinery.
Probleme Frecvente
“Flicker-free” claims without measurement. Stroboscopic flicker in E40 retrofit lamps is a known issue — rotating machinery and hand tools make it visually apparent and a safety concern. Request flicker index and flicker percent measurements (IES TM-30 or IEEE 1789 framework). Flicker index below 0.1 and flicker percent below 8% are the working thresholds for industrial environments.
E40 base fit variation. E40 sockets vary slightly by manufacturer. Some Chinese-made lamps use slightly undersized bases that produce poor contact in European-spec ceramic holders. Request a sample before committing to a production run and test in your actual fixture type.
IP rating on the lamp body. E40 retrofit lamps for enclosed high-bay fixtures do not typically carry an IP rating themselves — IP protection is provided by the fixture housing. If sourcing for open-type or partially-open fixtures, confirm the lamp’s own IP rating (IP20 is typical; IP44 is available for partially protected applications).
Note de Aprovizionare
Chinese production is concentrated in Zhongshan (Guzhen lighting cluster) and Shenzhen. Zhongshan factories are generally stronger on lighting-specific experience; Shenzhen factories more common for tech-heavy variants with 0–10V dimming drivers. MOQs for private-label (your brand, custom carton) start at 500 units for standard T46/T65 shapes; custom body geometry requires tooling at 2,000–5,000 unit runs.
For CE marking on the EU market, the relevant directives are the Low Voltage Directive (2014/35/EU) and EMC Directive (2014/30/EU), plus the ErP Regulation (EU) 2019/2020 (ecodesign for light sources). EU energy labelling (Regulation 2021/341) requires an energy label; E40 retrofit lamps typically fall in Class B–D depending on efficacy. Our inspection service verifies that test reports are from accredited third-party labs — self-declarations are common and insufficient for major retailers. For private-label projects, our private label service manages branding, carton design, and energy label generation.
Submit an RFQ with target wattage, lumen output, colour temperature, and destination market certifications. For retrofit projects replacing an existing fleet, send the incumbent lamp’s datasheet so we can match the photometric profile.
